A performance video shows the vocalist or band performing with their instruments. It could be in a recording studio, concert, rehersal room or anywhere.
The video could combine song and dance in their performance.
This video of The Killers shows them performing their song Somebody Told Me in the desert. The whole band is in the video either playing there instruments or singing.
Narrative Videos
A narrative music video is a short silent 'movie' to a musical background. Or a sequence of clips that tell a visual story that is easy to follow.
This video is an example of a narrative music video. The video starts off with no music and introduces the artist Gwen Stefani and the characters in the story. Then throughout the video we see clips of we see a gradual storyline build.
The music video fits well with the lyrics of the song and compliments the song rather than distract you from the music itself.
